Visit Mountainside Education and Enrichment on the 2010 Solar Tour

Visit Mountainside Education and Enrichment in Urbana, Maryland during the 2010 ASES National Solar Tour on Saturday, October 2 from 11am to 5pm.

“Mountainside is an active summer camp as well as a capus for Mountainside Enrichment and Education, a non-profit created to teach renewable resources.  Mountainside is home to a 10-kilowatt solar array as well as a 10-kilowatt wind turbine.  Both systems are monitored for efficiency and power output from a computer station located in their front office.  In efforts to teach both adults and children alike Mountainside has a number of other environmentally friendly installations and porjects that include rain gardens, composting toilets, organic gardens, 4,000 riparian tree buffer, and a wetlands conservation area.  Mountainside is also a 115-acre working farm with fields of corn and fruit trees.” (This write-up is courtesy of the 2010 Western Maryland Tour of Solar and Green Homes Guide.)

Visit Hope Alive Ministries on the 2010 Western Maryland Solar Home Tour

Visit Hope Alive, Inc. on the 2010 Western Maryland Solar Home Tour on Saturday October 2 from 11am to 5pm.

Hope Alive, Inc. is a nonprofit Christian ministry called to embrace homeless women and their children with the life-changing love of God. In partnership with the community, we offer a transitional home and comprehensive support services to empower women and children with Christian values, dignity, and the skills they need to live self-sustaining lives filled with hope and a future.

In April 2010, a collaboration of Glory Energy Solutions, BP Solar, Sustainable Energy Systems, LLC, and Crum Electric donated their time and materials to design, build, and commission the 5kW BP Solar energy system for Hope Alive and their residents.
